Swan Bitcoin might lose all banking access

Swan Bitcoin is warning users to not withdraw directly to Wasabi or Samourai wallets, two of the most popular bitcoin mixing services. For at least the third time, Swan customers are having problems with banking access. Specifically, Swan Bitcoin co-founder Yan Pritzker recently admitted that “some of the banks and qualified custodians that Swan works with have been freezing or terminating accounts.” An email from Swan claims that these suspensions affect customers who deposit or withdraw bitcoin with a bitcoin mixing service. We're negotiating with the banks, working on a lawsuit alongside MANY friends vs. FinCEN if needed, and in the meantime just don't withdraw straight to Wasabi or Samourai unless you want a bank to *maybe* ask one of our settlement partners to freeze your account. Icelandic volcano threatens geothermal plant powering crypto mines

Icelandic authorities are preparing to shield a geothermal plant relied upon by crypto miners amid fears that recent earthquakes in the region could soon be followed by a volcanic eruption. Quakes in the southwestern region of Reykjanes began on October 26 and continued to escalate during November. Despite the tremors subsiding, the town of Grindavik has been evacuated with scientists claiming that an eruption from the Fagradalsfjall volcano is imminent. The volcano is located three kilometers from the Svartsengi geothermal plant which, as reported by Reuters, is currently being fortified with defensive walls designed to protect it from potential lava flows. According to Iceland’s justice minister, enough resources to fill 20,000 trucks are being moved to the plant to help create the defensive barrier. Iceland is bracing for a volcanic eruption in the coming days after a series of earthquakes and evidence of hot magma flowing quickly underground. Authorities have evacuate...

Shiba Inu: An Investment of $50 Turns $18.3 Million in November 2023

Image
Shiba Inu (SHIB) investors have recently found cause for celebration as the meme coin experiences an upswing. Breaking free from its previous stagnation, SHIB is indicating signs of a rally, aligning with the overall market trends. Remarkably, reflecting on the crypto currency’s historical lows, investors could have accumulated $18 million with a modest investment of only $50. The mechanism behind this achievement lies in the practice of dollar-cost averaging (DCA). This article will further delve into the same. DCA entails the consistent investment of a fixed amount. This is regardless of the current price of the asset, with the objective of mitigating the impact of market volatility. This approach is particularly favored by long-term investors who seek to steadily build wealth over an extended period. The strength of DCA lies in its capacity to smooth out the effects of market fluctuations, enabling investors to benefit from both market highs and lows. Also Read: Shiba Inu...

SEC Chair Gensler takes dig at lawyers advising crypto and defi projects

Gary Gensler alluded that crypto currency operators tapping legal consultants could be doing so due to their supposedly unlawful securities offerings. Gensler, Chairman of the U.S. Securities and Commission (SEC), reiterated skepticism regarding crypto service providers and their lack of compliance with existing financial laws overseeing the world’s largest capital market. Furthermore, the SEC head drew parallels between attorneys reaching agreements with crypto entities and the business model employed by digital asset operators, arguing that the economic reality highlights how the “vast majority of crypto assets likely meet the investment contract test”, and are therefore securities.  Stuart Aldertory, Ripple’s chief legal officer, said Gensler’s comments are factually incorrect and that his underlying suggestion regarding crypto projects retaining legal advisors could be viewed as opposing rights enshrined in the U.S. Constitution.  “It’s a not-so-subtle and outrageous thre...

How lawyers overslept crypto revolution | Opinion

Image
Disclosure: The views and opinions expressed here belong solely to the author and do not represent the views and opinions of crypto.news’ editorial. There is a growing fintech and web3 industry, yet people often struggle to find legal professionals for a wide variety of legal jobs in this space. Typical inquiries may include how to issue tokens, launch a DAO, or manage a crypto fund. The case that ended up on my desk turned out to be much more commonplace, namely, a dispute involving a customer and a crypto exchange that refused to release crypto currency, citing compliance with anti-money laundering and countering the financing of terrorism (AML/CFT) regulations. However, this case was significant because it underscored the competency gap among ‘ crypto ’ lawyers who had tried to resolve it before I did. One day, a friend of mine brought the issue to me. I wasn’t practicing law at that time, being preoccupied with academic research on blockchain, but my curiosity was...

Bitcoin Looks To Break ‘Volatility Rut’ With FOMC Rate Hike

Image
Following the surge prompted by institutional interest in crypto currencies, Bitcoin [BTC] has been exhibiting limited movement within a tight trading range of $28,000-$31,000. This consolidation could be attributed to various factors. The primary reason is the growing interest in altcoins. Ripple’s partial legal victory sparked heightened interest in altcoins, causing BTC to take a backseat in the market. Consequently, this has led to a notable decrease in the volatility of the leading crypto . According to data from 99Bitcoins, the 30-day estimate for Bitcoin has dropped to only 0.74%. This is the lowest realized reading for Bitcoin since Jan. 16, when it was at 71%. Source Furthermore, Greeks Live, the crypto derivatives analytics firm, has noted that the volatility index for both BTC and Ether has hit a multi-year low of 37%. The DVOL [Deribit Implied Volatility Index] algorithm has also observed that the current implied volatility level is at the lowest in the history o...
